The 4th Annual Maintain Don’t Gain weight loss incentive program kicked off this year with a healthy happy hour at the Alumni Wang and Zesiger Center on November 17th. The Recreational Staff registered and took initial weights of over 130 participants.
These participants made the commitment to try to eat rationally and exercise to maintain their current weight over the holidays as well as lose some unwanted pounds. The participants came from all walks of life but are all patrons of the two recreational facilities on campus. Some are former athletes, administrators, community members, professors, and students.
Over the six week period between Thanksgiving and New Years, it is estimated that the average person puts on about 3-5 lbs because of excessive over eating. The Maintain don’t Gain program provides our participants information on healthy eating and fun ways to exercise so that they maintain their weight. Participants got weekly e-mails encouraging them to stay on track as well as tips and tricks on how to eat better and make exercise more fun. Over 90% of the people who weighed out maintained or lost weight!
