Summer Safety Tips

There are many summer destinations that entice fun seekers - the emergency room is NOT one of them - so with that in mind please consider the following summer safety tips:

(1) Sun. We all know the dangers, we just need to practice appropriate prevention….Block-up!

(2) Beach Safety. Watch out for the tidal undertow and see # (1)

(3) Boating Safety. Know the rules of the water and keep an eye out for those who don’t….see Franny and the Matts for more info.

(4) Insect Bites. Ticks, mosquitoes, bees - stay out of the high weeds and cover up to avoid these creatures.

(5) Exercising in the heat. You won’t sweat as much, but you’ll get a better workout if you go for your run in the early morning. Stay hydrated and be careful if you’re out at dusk; you blend in with your surroundings and drivers can’t see you as well. Reflective vests are always good.

(6) Bicycle Safety. Helmet…got it...get one if you don’t.

(7) Unhealthy air quality. Exercisers and seniors should include “air quality” in their assessment of the daily forecast.

(8) Trampolines. Largely fun, but they can be very dangerous. Only allow one jumper at a time; most injuries are from two or more jumpers colliding.

(9) Enjoying the summer nights. When staying out late, always plan to walk home with a friend.

(10) The two biggies - Fireworks and Grilling. To avoid nasty burns, use an extra dose of common-sense! And don’t forget to hang out with Franny and the Matts for the Fourth of July
