Recently I wanted to listen to an older message that I had saved in voice mail. I was quite surprised to hear that I had 88 messages in my inbox. With the old system we would fill voice mailboxes with only about twenty but now the box is limitless. I immediately called the help desk and asked if there was a way to get rid of all the messages at once. The answer was no. The other part of the answer was that it would probably take about 4 or 5 trips to my mailbox because voice mail will hang up after so much time.
Like many of you I receive voice mail in email so I can go back through the email mailbox that I filter my voice mail messages to and find the one I am looking for but it still bothers me that I have that many messages. What if I was away from my email and wanted to get some information from the last message I just received. The saved messages start with the first one you got so in my case I would have to skip past 87 messages to get to the last one I just heard.
Deleting the email version of the voice mail will not erase them from your voice mail. The website that can be used to manage your phone and messages will not let you erase all the messages at once so your only option is to delete them one at a time.
Connect to voice mail and log in and press 1 to hear your old messages, after you listen to new ones. As the woman says “next message” hit the 7 key on the phone which deletes the message. Do this for about 20 messages per call.
Now remember if you receive your voice mail messages through email you probably don’t want to go through this because you can look up a message in email. If you do not receive your voice mail via email let me know and we will take steps to see that you receive them via email.
